Illinois Man Arrested In Kuttawa For Drug Trafficking & Auto Theft

An Illinois man was arrested in Lyon County Monday night for theft of an auto and trafficking meth.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call at Mt. Pleasant Road in Kuttawa around 6:30 regarding a suspicious person who was armed with a handgun in the driveway of a residence and allegedly making threats.

The sheriff’s office reports the subject, who was later identified as 43-year old Brian Collins of Marion, Illinois, had fled the area before deputies and Eddyville police officers arrived at the scene. After getting a description of the subject, Collins was reportedly found in a nearby field where he was detained and found to be armed with a 9mm handgun.

Deputies say an investigation revealed Collins got off of Interstate 24 onto KY 93 North and traveled to the Travis Road area where he parked his vehicle and began walking and trying to find unlocked vehicles. They say he tried to get into multiple vehicles before stealing a passenger car on Benberry Court in Kuttawa. Collins had reportedly returned to the Mt. Pleasant Road area where he was seen trying to gain entry into another parked car.

Collins was charged with theft by unlawful taking-auto, third-degree criminal trespassing, trafficking in methamphetamine-firearm enhanced, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lyon County Deputy Joe Witherspoon is continuing to investigate.
