Kentucky’s COVID-19 Mortality Rate Continues to Rise

Kentucky’s COVID-19 mortality rate continues to rise as the state posted its fourth consecutive day of 20 or more deaths linked to the virus for the first time.

The state reported 25 deaths Friday, ranging in age from 40 to 84. They included single residents of Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, and Hopkins counties.

In the first four days of December, the state has reported 131 deaths compared to 29 in the first four days of November.

A total of 3,614 cases of the virus were reported Friday with 25-percent of the new cases coming from Louisville and Lexington. The state’s positivity rate was 9.9-percent.

Meanwhile, Tennessee has been added to the Kentucky Department of Public Health’s travel advisory for states with a positivity rate of 15-percent or higher. There are 16 states on the travel advisory with Tennessee joining Missouri and Ohio as states that border Kentucky on the list. Health officials have requested people quarantine for 10-14 upon returning from traveling to states on the travel advisory.
