Community Raises Over $20K for Helping Hands Food Bank

The community helped to shatter the previous fundraising record set by the Helping Hands of Trigg County last year, Thursday afternoon.

The organization, which holds a donation drive annually after Thanksgiving, raised over $22,000 thanks to numerous donations. The two-hour event held in the Tollgate Shopping Center across from Hancocks Neighborhood Market allowed the community to come out and drop off donations while following COVID-19 protocols.

During the remote broadcast on WKDZ, the Cadiz Rotary Club brought in well over $3,500 in donations because of a challenge by Rotarian Scott Sutherland. He tells the News Edge the rotary club helps the organization because of what they do for the community.

Another supporter of the program is the Back to Back Foundation. Brent Gilkey with the organization said their donation is made along with other organizations around this time of year. He added Helping Hands of Trigg County is very important.

Helping Hands Co-Chair K. G. Ariagno said the COVID-19 pandemic meant the need for food increased in Cadiz and Trigg County.

She added it’s easy to get assistance for your family.

Donations to Helping Hands of Trigg County can be mailed to P.O. Box 1874, Cadiz, Kentucky 42211.
