Further Restrictions Coming for Long-Term Care Facilities in Kentucky

Kentucky is asking nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to take extra actions as COVID-19 cases continue to climb.

Dr. Eric Friedlander, Secretary for Health and Human Services, said Monday afternoon they are trying to slow the spread to protect seniors by taking more aggressive action.

Another step they are taking is severely limiting holiday visitation.

One other thing the state is going to do to help those facilities where employees need a break is bring in National Guard Strike Teams.

Governor Andy Beshear confirmed 1,514 new COVID-19 cases Monday, along with three deaths. The state’s positivity rate sits at 8.98-percent.

Beshear also shared there are 103 counties in the red across the Commonwealth.

In Christian County, the highest single-day increase of new COVID-19 cases and a new death were confirmed.

Spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said a 36-year-old African American female with underlying health conditions was the county’s 36th death.

She added COVID-19 could be especially detrimental to those with underlying health conditions.

The county reported 69 new cases Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,500. Of those, 365 are active, with the county reporting 2,099 recoveries since mid-March.

Sweeny asks everyone to do your part to help prevent the spread by wearing a mask, washing your hands, and social distancing.
