Construction of New Terminal at Barkley Regional Airport to Begin in 2021

Governor Andy Beshear joined airport representatives and other officials virtually Friday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new terminal at Barkley Regional Airport in Paducah.

The expansion will house a commercial terminal and provide space for industrial and commercial development in areas adjacent to the site both on and off the airfield. The project has received $5 million from the state and over $19 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration. Airport officials are optimistic more grant funding will be available next year.

Officials said the project’s first phase includes dirt work, bringing utilities to the site, and relocating an automated weather station. The project is estimated to cost $42 million and includes constructing both a new access road for the terminal and a new aircraft apron.

The terminal building is being designed, and once completed, construction is hoped to begin early next year. The terminal is tentatively scheduled to open to the public in early 2023.
