Madisonville Man Charged With Setting House Fire

A Madisonville man has been charged with arson and multiple counts of wanton endangerment after he allegedly set a fire inside a home with three people inside.

According to Madisonville Police, officers and the Madisonville Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 500 block on Adams Avenue shortly before 5:00 Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, police said three people were discovered inside the home at the time of the fire.

Police said one of the victims, Robert Pressley stated he was sleeping on the couch in the living room when he was awakened by the smell of smoke and found the living room curtains were on fire. He told police when he went into the kitchen to wake the others, he saw 50-year old Rodney Pentecost with a lighter trying to set fire to the curtains on the backdoor.

Pentecost then fled out the front door but was found by police a short time later less than a block from the home.

Pentecost was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
