Kentucky Extending Mask Mandate Another Month

Kentucky confirmed over 1,600 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday.

The state, which has seen high amounts of new cases each day, reported 1,635 new cases and 11 deaths. The statewide positivity rate rose to 6.3-percent.

Currently, 1,066 residents remained hospitalized, and 286 are in the ICU in Kentucky.

In comments made Wednesday afternoon, Governor Andy Beshear extended the statewide mask mandate another 30-days. The mandate will now be effective through at least mid-December.

In Christian County, health department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney confirmed the county’s 32nd COVID-linked death Wednesday. She said the deceased was an 86-year-old African American female who had underlying health conditions. She added their thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

The county announced 35 new cases and reported 324 active cases. There have been 1,780 recoveries since mid-March.

Sweeney asked residents to help control the spread of the virus by correctly wearing a mask in public, social distancing, frequently washing your hands, and taking advantage of their free testing opportunity.
