Bentzel Provides CCPS COVID-19 Update

With Christian County listed in the ‘red’ zone on COVID incidence reports from state and federal public health officials, Christian County Public Schools’ Superintendent Chris Bentzel says the district continues to do well with mitigating the spread of the coronavirus among students and staff.

During his Tuesday afternoon COVID dashboard update, Bentzel says cases have risen at Millbrooke Elementary School but he feels they are still mitigating the spread of the virus within the district.

He adds the district is having a good week and he feels confident with in-person instruction moving forward.

Although the governor made some recommendations to counties in the ‘red’ zone on Monday, Bentzel says those recommendations mainly are geared toward the community as a whole. However, he adds they are using the incidence map as an indicator to make good decisions about schools and in-person instruction.

Bentzel reiterated they have not seen a spread from a positive COVID case connected to a close contact quarantine. He says the message he wants to the community to hear is that the school district is doing everything a health organization would do.

He says they still want to bring middle school students into the classroom for traditional learning five-days a week in mid-November, but it will depend on several factors including if the COVID-19 numbers keep increasing, a survey that has been sent to parents, and ultimately if the school board approves it.
