A Hopkinsville man charged in connection to a fatal shooting in November 2018 in Trigg County appeared for a pretrial conference Wednesday afternoon.

James Gentry is charged with complicity to murder, first-degree robbery, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. Gentry was arrested by state police after the body of Joey Hayes was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a hay barn located on Buffalo Road in Trigg County on November 28, 2018.

Gentry and his defense attorney, Michael Thompson and Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie-Ovey Wiggins appeared before Judge C.A. “Woody” Woodall Wednesday afternoon. Judge Woodall set a final pretrial conference for November 5th at 1:00, which is not a regular rule day in Trigg County. Ovey-Wiggins said this would allow more time for discussion of any issues leading up to the trial, including any that may be related to COVID-19. She added they are also still awaiting the results from some DNA evidence that is being tested.

Gentry remains lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $1 million bond. His trial date is set to begin on December 10.
