October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Governor Andy Beshear took time Monday to talk about it during his COVID-19 briefing.
Governor Beshear said the month should be a time to set aside to acknowledge survivors and be a voice for the victims.
He added the state has made progress in addressing domestic violence, but the current rate is still higher than the national average.
The Kentucky State Police victim advocates also serve as liaisons between law enforcement and the victims.
Beshear added since October 2018 more than $28 million has been donated to public agencies across the Commonwealth by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet to help domestic violence victims.
