Dawson Springs Man Charged With Cultivating Marijuana

A Dawson Springs man was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana Friday morning.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a disorderly conduct call on Charleston Road in Dawson Springs around 11:00 a.m. Deputies said Joel Griffith was at the property to repossess a storage unit from 49-year old Robert Plunkett who told him he needed to remove his marijuana plants from inside the unit before Griffith retrieved it. According to deputies, Griffith called Central Dispatch and reported the information.

Plunkett reportedly met a deputy at a gated entry to the back yard where the storage unit was located. The deputy said Plunkett went into the unit and brought out two large black trash bags of marijuana plants.

After Plunkett was read his Miranda rights, deputies said he admitted the marijuana was his and that he was drying out five plants in the unit for his personal use. Plunkett reportedly told the deputies he received the plants from an individual at no cost.

Plunkett was arrested and charged with felony cultivating in marijuana – five or more plants. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and released.
