Bentzel Reports A Decrease In COVID Cases At CCPS

CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel

Christian County Public Schools’ Superintendent Chris Bentzel says students and staff are doing a good job mitigating the spread of the coronavirus amid the pandemic.

During his weekly COVID update, Bentzel says the district has had a good week so far other than the Hopkinsville High School football game with Calloway County that forced some players into quarantine after one of the players on the opposing team tested positive for COVID.

He points out the number of cases has dramatically decreased since last week with the largest number of positive cases currently students enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy.

Fall break is next week, and Bentzel expresses his gratitude to students, staff, and parents who have been patient and understanding the first nine weeks of school. He offers a few recommendations, including if anyone goes anywhere on fall break to use common sense and use healthy habits.

He adds the healthy habits are for the greater good of keeping schools open.

Bentzel says the current plan is for students to return to the current instructional models after fall break. He adds they have three markers they will look at for students and staff to return to school.

Bentzel says he did a secondary student advisory meeting including 30 students at each high school and all of the students said they are ready to come back to school full-time. However, he says they need to continue to take baby steps and get the three markers met in order to move forward.

You can view the number of cases and quarantines in the district by going to the COVID Data Dashboard which is posted each weekday afternoon on the Christian County Public Schools Facebook page.
