Officials with the City of Hopkinsville announced Thursday that the City Council and the Committee of the Whole meetings will return to online beginning in October based on updated recommendations from the Christian County Health Department.

According to officials, the decision is substantially due to the community’s current upward trend in coronavirus cases and they believe it is their responsibility to limit exposure through close contact as much as possible. City officials will reevaluation this decision on a monthly basis to decide if virtual meetings should continue or in-person meetings should resume.

This announcement also comes after city officials canceled the September 17th Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meeting in order for the building to be sanitized because someone that attended a City Council meeting earlier in the week had tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Wendell Lynch is encouraging the public to continue to practice safe social distancing, avoid gatherings as much as possible, wash your hands often and for at least twenty seconds, and always wear a facial covering in public.

City Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will continue to be streamed live online as well as on Facebook and on Spectrum Channel 376.

Anyone with questions about the city’s response to COVID-19 can call Healthy-at-Work Coordinator Kenneth Grabara at (270) 890-0264.
