State Reports COVID Cases Up, Hospitalizations and ICU Census Down

Kentucky’s seven-day rolling average of new COVID-19 cases is the highest since Sept. 5, while persons hospitalized and in the ICU due to the virus have dropped over that same time.

The state reported 796 new cases Wednesday, putting the state’s seven-day average at 696 — the most since September 5th. However, the number of people hospitalized and in the ICU has declined by five over that same time.

The state’s positivity rate was 4.5-percent for a second straight day after a solid week under 4-percent.

There have been over 414,000 tests administered this month, which averages out to 18,000 per day. The state’s average in August was just under 8,000 per day.

The state reported five new deaths linked to COVID-19 bringing the total for September to 191. There were 198 deaths reported in August and 172 in July.
