Trigg School Board Hears First Reading of 2020 Tax Rates

Trigg County school board members heard the first reading of the 2020 tax rates Thursday evening and approved to partner with the Edge Media Group to host an athletic fundraiser next week.

District Finance Officer Holly Greene recommended to the board they keep the rate the same as it was for 2019 taxes.

The current tax rate for real estate and personal property is 55.1 cents per $100 of assessed value, 46 cents per $100 of assessed value for motor vehicles, and the maximum 3% for utilities. The board approved to host a public hearing concerning the tax rates on Wednesday evening, September 30 at 5:30 in the Trigg County High School Little Theater. After the public hearing, the board will take action and approve rates at the next meeting.

In other action, the board approved to allow WKDZ Radio to host an athletic fundraiser on Wednesday. Edge Media Group President Beth Mann told board members 100% of proceeds raised that day will go to the athletic department to offset some of the losses of admission from limited attendance at games due to COVID-19.

Mann adds the community will be able to participate in the fundraiser and listen to live coverage on 106.5 WKDZ, wkdzradio.com, and the WKDZ app from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Local businesses that make a donation of $1,000 or more through the fundraiser will receive a special advertising package.

Mann says coaches, administrators, and players will educate the community about the importance of athletics during ‘Wildcat Wednesday’. The Edge Media Group recently held a fundraiser for athletics at Caldwell County Public Schools. The event was hosted by WPKY and raised over $16,000.

WKDZ will also provide video of football games, free of charge to fans so they can be engaged, even though there are COVID-19 restrictions.

In other news, board members approved action to change the job description of the Assistant Superintendent position to that of a Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. Superintendent Bill Thorpe says this change will help bring in more qualified applicants to fill the position.

Thorpe adds the title for the salary schedule will change, but the salary will not change for the position.
