Motorists traveling westbound on Interstate 24 in Lyon County need to be aware of a lane restriction Sunday afternoon due to a memorial ceremony for a fallen state trooper.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane at the 49-mile marker for a 5:00 memorial service for Kentucky State Trooper Cameron Ponder.
31-year old Trooper Ponder was fatally shot at this location on September 13, 2015, while conducting a routine traffic stop. killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop at this location five years ago. He had served as a Trooper for Post 1 in Mayfield for about nine months before he was killed.
According to Todd, the lane restriction will be just west of the Friendship Road Overpass from 4:00 until 6:00 Sunday afternoon.
