Contract Approved For CCPS Buildings To Be Sanitized Weekly

Christian County school board members last week unanimously approved a contract with a local business to sanitize buildings amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the return of students and teachers to in-person instruction on Tuesday.

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Josh Hunt recommended the board accept the lowest bid, which was from McGee Pest Control for nearly $10,000 per week.

He added they believe the cost will be covered by FEMA and CARES funding, and he feels the extra sanitizing is necessary.

Hunt said every building in the district, including the board of education building, would be sanitized once a week.

Upon a request from school board members at the last meeting, Hunt explained they looked into the possibility of the district doing the sanitizing, but it wasn’t cost-efficient.

Students in the middle and high schools are returning to in-person instruction Tuesday on a hybrid schedule, meaning they will be in the classroom two days a week and learning online three days. The board made the decision last week to use the phased-in schedule to get students who have been using non-traditional instruction since August 27th back into learning in a classroom. Elementary school students will return to traditional in-person learning and will be in the classroom all five days.
