Murray State University Expands Internet Services to Help Students

During a roundtable discussion about broadband internet across the Commonwealth, an official from Murray State University spoke about the things they are doing to make the semester easier for their students during the pandemic.

Chief Information Officer Brian Verkamp says the college has offered online courses for a number of years, but now more students are taking them.

He adds they have implemented a lot of things that they couldn’t during the spring semester.

Another thing the college has provided students is laptops that are able to facilitate the work they must complete for each course.

Verkamp says the college also spent the summer expanding outdoor seating to ensure social distancing for those who need to access the internet at the college.

The discussion was hosted by First District Congressman James Comer on Thursday. Comer spoke to those working to expand internet services to those on the “last mile”.

Murray State University is one of two, four-year colleges in the first congressional district.
