Hopkinsville Receives Federal Relief For Housing Programs

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Friday morning that Hopkinville will receive more than $264,000 of federal funding for housing programs.The federal funding was made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act, which was introduced by McConnell and became the largest financial rescue package in American history.

According to McConnell’s office, the state received a total of over $754,000 in federal funding for housing programs. In addition to Hopkinsville, Owensboro and Boone County will receive a portion of the CARES Act funding for housing programs.

So far, the CARES Act has delivered more than $98 million for housing assistance programs in Kentucky.

In addition to these federal funds, McConnell’s office says the CARES Act has had a $12 billion impact in Kentucky so far with $3.9 billion in relief going to address urgent housing, transportation, healthcare, education, and economic development priorities. Kentucky’s small businesses, farmers, and nonprofits have accessed more than $5.2 billion in assistance through 50,000 PPP loans. In addition, families in the commonwealth have also received more than $3.8 billion in Economic Impact Payments from the U.S. Treasury.
