Health Department Clarifies State Reporting Discrepancy

While Christian County’s seven-day rolling average of active COVID-19 cases increased Friday for a 12th straight day, the numbers have appeared to plateau over the past week.

The Christian County Health Department reported five new active COVID cases Friday, bringing the total of actives cases to 243. The seven-day rolling average is 242.8, which has increased by just six in the past four days.

Four of the five new active cases involve people 21 and under.

Christian County has reported 50 cases of the coronavirus since Sunday. At Thursday’s state capitol media briefing, Governor Andy Beshear reported 70 new cases in Christian County. Amanda Sweeney used social media Friday to clarify what health department officials and media have been reporting all summer — the state totals lag behind the actual numbers of the local health departments.

click to download audioAs of Friday, the Christian County Health Department was reporting 796 total cases in the county, while the state’s COVID-19 website showed the county with 631 cases.

The state’s COVID-19 website Friday also reported there were only five active cases in the county’s long-term care facilities. That number was 16 on Monday.
