Ballard County Man Appointed To Serve First Wildlife District

A Ballard County man has been appointed to represent the First Wildlife District on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission, which includes the counties of Christian, Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg and all counties west of Land Between the Lakes.

The Commission announced Thursday morning that Governor Andy Beshear appointed David Jones and two new members to serve four-year terms effective August 14th.

According to officials, Jones is a lifelong hunter and angler, a Vietnam veteran and co-owner of Green Timber Duck Club — a 156-acre farm developed specifically for waterfowl hunting in the Barlow river bottoms of Ballard County.

Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 until he was honorably discharged as a corporal. He studied wildlife biology at Murray State University for two and a half years before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He is also a graduate of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s School of Instrument Technology at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.

Officials said Jones is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and winner of numerous regional long-range rifle competitions. He has worked as a professional waterfowl hunting and fishing guide in western Kentucky and southern Illinois and was named 2020 Person of the Year by the Wetherby Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

Jones said in a release he is here for everybody in the First District, whether you’re in Christian County or Ballard County.

The governor also appointed Josh Lillard, of Boone County, to represent the Fifth Wildlife District and Rob Lear, of Fayette County, to represent Sixth Wildlife District.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission promotes fish and wildlife conservation while representing the interests of anglers and hunters. The Commission recommends all hunting, fishing, and boating regulations for approval by the General Assembly.
