Trigg County Public Schools Superintendent Bill Thorpe named an interim assistant superintendent Tuesday afternoon.

The district reports Randy McCallon was chosen by Thorpe to fill the position through December 31. McCallon comes from the Calloway County school district where he served as a teacher, principal, Director of Instruction, and superintendent before he retired. He has served in education for over thirty years.

Current Assistant Superintendent Beth Sumner announced her retirement, effective September 1, during the July 23 school board meeting.

Thorpe says it will be difficult to replace Sumner, after working with the district for over 27 years. He adds she has had such a positive impact on the district’s students, teachers, and staff.

Thorpe will begin his search for a new assistant superintendent in October and hopes to have the position filled before the end of the year so that the new person can get adjusted to the role.

McCallon will work part-time through September 1 and then move into the position full-time.
