A Hopkins County man who is accused in the Friday afternoon fatal shooting of a woman at the Ideal Market in Earlington has been arrested.

According to a Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office report, 32-year old Dennis Stone, of Madisonville was arrested in Davidson County, Tennessee after turning himself in early Saturday morning to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The department adds the arrest stems from an investigation involving the shooting death of Nichole Merrell, of Madisonville, which also injured a child that she was holding at the time of the incident.

Stone’s arrest warrant lists charges of murder, first-degree assault, and twelve counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, for endangering others in and around the parking lot at the time of the shooting.

Detective Joe Stratton and deputies from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office worked through the night to obtain warrants and worked with the Metro Nashville Police Department to serve Stone the warrants. The department says they will begin the process next week of extraditing Stone back to Kentucky.
