WKRBC Blood Drive at Princeton Walmart Friday

Officials with the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center (WKRBC) are encouraging community members to participate in a blood drive Friday to help increase blood supply levels as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

WKRBC Recruiter Robbin Shively says that the bloodmobile will be set up at the Princeton Walmart, which is located on Highway 62 West, from 10AM until 4PM for those interested in giving blood. She adds that while WKRBC does reach adequate levels following most blood drives, now is not the time to be complacent, the need to keep blood supplies sufficient, or above, is imperative.

Shively notes that despite concerns over the spread of coronavirus donating blood is safe but extra precautions, like taking a potential donor’s temperature prior to donation, have been implemented to keep staff and the public safe.

She is reminding all potential donors that you must be at least 17 years of age to donate, 16 year olds may donate with a parent consent form, and must weigh at least 115 pounds, must wait at least 56 days between blood donations, must have a photo ID, and must check all of their medications with staff.

Shively is also encouraging all potential donors to eat a good meal and keep hydrated before donating.

WKRBC supplies six area hospitals, including Caldwell Medical Center, and three air ambulances. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, you can contact WKRBC at 270-885-0728.
