Hopkinsville City Council Approves Annual Audit Report

Hopkinsville City Council approved the annual audit report at Tuesday night’s meeting and the renaming of a section of West First Street in honor of a fallen police officer.

Kerry Fort with York, Neal & Associates, presented the annual audit report and said the City of Hopkinsville received a clean opinion for the audit financial statements.

He also shared the index guide of the cash investments for the general and various other funds from 2016-2019, which he said shows the city has done a good job handling the general fund cash balance over a four-year comparison.

During those same years, Fort said the general fund balance on the audit report also showed the good diligence and money management by the city.

In addition, Fort told the News Edge the City was also compliant and had a clean opinion regarding governmental regulations.

In other business, council members unanimously approved on second reading renaming a 768-foot section of West First Street as Phillip Meacham Way in honor of the Hopkinsville Police Officer who was fatally shot on Paulette Court while off duty on March 29, 2018.

And the council approved the COVID-19 Relief Fund Contract for $2.23 million, which Mayor Wendell Lynch said the application had already been approved. As the News Edge previously reported City Financial Officer Robert Martin said the CARES Act funding would be used to reimburse all the city’s first responders, along with restricting $1.5 million, approximately 2/3 of the funds, into the general fund for pension increases through the next two years. He also said the remaining $730,000 would be transferred out of the general fund into a newly created Economic Development Fund.

The next city council meeting will be Tuesday evening, August 18th, at 6:00.
