Hopkinsville Police Charge Clarksville Man With Drug Trafficking

A Clarksville man was charged with trafficking marijuana and unlawful transaction with a minor after a traffic stop in Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say 21-year-old Deonte Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a juvenile that was stopped for a traffic violation on East 9th Street near Woodmill Road. During the stop, Taylor was reportedly reaching into the floorboard and putting his hands on the door handle.

Police say they could smell marijuana in the vehicle and attempted to detain Taylor when he tried to push the officer. Taylor allegedly continued to not comply with officers even after they pulled a taser and he had to be forcefully detained.

After a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found marijuana in the front passenger door, under the front passenger seat, and in the center console along with two bottles of whiskey. Police say Taylor was assisting the juvenile in trafficking marijuana.

He is charged with trafficking marijuana, second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, and resisting arrest.
