Thorpe Talks About Returning to Class for Trigg Students

Parents of students at Trigg County Schools will have two options when returning to class in late August.

Superintendent Bill Thorpe tells the News Edge, at this time, a traditional option and a virtual option will be available.

He adds students who enroll in the virtual learning option will still be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities. Thorpe adds those who participate in virtual learning can not make a switch to the traditional option until the first semester is over.

As COVID-19 cases across the Commonwealth continue to rise, Thorpe says the state is talking about potential guidelines where schools may close in areas with high case numbers.

For those students who return to the traditional classroom, there will be several guidelines that will be followed. In regards to transportation, buses will be cleaned and sanitized after every route. In the school building, masks will be required in places where students can not social distance. Students who are in preschool or Kindergarten will not have to wear masks and there will be dividers between each of their desks.

Thorpe says parents who do not want their children wearing masks should enroll their children in the virtual option.

The district asks those who are interested in participating in the virtual learning option, to let them know by Friday.

When it comes to visitors, Thorpe says they will not be allowed past the office when classes resume.

Thorpe adds guidelines continue to evolve and the district will let parents know of any additional changes. For more information about the virtual option or how to get signed up for it, you can call the board of education at (270) 522-6075 or click here. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26.
