HCA In-Person Classes To Begin August 11

Heritage Christian Academy will reopen with in-person instruction on August 11 as school officials say they continue to work with the guidelines provided by the Kentucky Department of Education and other health officials in order to ensure the safety of staff and students when they return.

Headmaster Linda Garris says the school’s policy regarding face masks is strongly recommended but does not require their use per the state guidelines. She adds the board’s desire is to allow the administration to determine best practices as the situation with COVID-19 changes.

Garris says the school is installing devices that will quickly read the temperature when students and adults enter the building. Preschoolers will have their temperature taken before entering their room by a digital thermometer, per state regulations. She adds parents will not be able to enter the building with the exception of the first day. If any adult enters the building on the first day of school to drop off a student, Garris says a mask is required due to the number of people.

During school pick-up, Garris says students will be dismissed at five-minute intervals and they will not be able allowed to gather in the hallways.

According to Garris, the school’s staff has been working on training for technology integration in the classroom and tools that will increase the quality of instruction if schools are mandated to close in the future.
