Dawson Springs Man Accused in Fatal Caldwell County Shooting

A Dawson Springs man is facing murder charges following a fatal shooting in Caldwell County Friday evening. KSP Post 2 Public Information Officer Rob Austin says troopers were contacted by Caldwell County Dispatch in reference to a shooting that took place in the 100 block of Wood Lane around 7:30 PM.

He adds investigation revealed 43-year-old Joe R. Curnell, of Dawson Springs, allegedly shot 24-year-old James Bannister, of Eddyville, with a handgun.

Bannister was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Curnell was taken into custody at his residence in Dawson Springs around 12:43 Saturday morning and was lodged in the Caldwell County Jail. He is being charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police detectives.
