Bechler Named to Child Welfare Oversight and Advisory Committee

The state representative who serves Caldwell, Crittenden, and Livingston counties, as well as a section of Christian County, has been selected to serve on the Child Welfare Oversight and Advisory Committee.

According to a release Representative Lynn Bechler was appointed by Speaker David Osborne to serve on the committee that reviews, analyzes, and provides oversight on child welfare issues, including foster care, adoption, and child abuse.

Bechler states Kentucky has made great strides in reforming the foster care system but there is still more work to be done. He adds the state still has one of the highest rates of child abuse and thousands of children circulate in and out of the state foster care system each year and he is looking forward to discussing comprehensive solutions to these complex issues with other members of the committee.

In addition to serving in this capacity, Bechler is also a member of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, Economic Development and Workforce Investment Committee, and Tourism, Small Business, and Information Technology Committee and is the Co-Chair for the Program Review and Investigations Committee and the Budget Review Subcommittee on Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Protection.

The Child Welfare Oversight and Advisory Committee will meet monthly throughout the 2020 legislative interim with the first meeting to be held Wednesday, July 22nd.
