University Of Kentucky Releases Plan For Fall 2020 Semester

Officials with the University of Kentucky released their plan for the Fall 2020 semester Tuesday.

According to University officials, students will move-in from August 10 to August 16 by appointment and are asked to bring minimal items to streamline the move-in process. Upon moving in, officials say students will be given a “healthy living starter kit” containing hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and masks. The University is also considering plans to provide these kits to students living off-campus.

Officials say the academic calendar has been altered with classes beginning on August 17, a week earlier than originally scheduled with the semester to end at Thanksgiving Break. Officials add classes will be held on Labor Day, and students will not get a fall break, but Election Day in November will remain an academic holiday.

U.K. President Eli Capilouto says classes will be held in-person “to the extent possible as dictated by the health of the campus, space constraints from social distancing and student learning objectives.” He adds labs or other programs that require large groups of students may alter then schedules.

In addition, Capilouto says students will be required to wear masks unless they are alone in a room, while eating, drinking or exercising or when it interferes with required classroom activities. He adds social distancing will also be encouraged with signage installed to promote it in crowded areas. He says the University will also provide testing and personal protective equipment to students.

University officials say Champions Kitchen and Fresh Food Company will operate at reduced capacity and transition from self-served stations to served and carry-out methods. All other retail dining on campus will operate with reduced seating and carry-out.
