City of Cadiz May Be Removed From Local IDA

Trigg County Fiscal Court magistrates may soon take action to remove the City of Cadiz from the local Industrial Development Authority after a discussion Monday evening.

During their regularly scheduled meeting, magistrate Alana Dunn asked what they could do about the city not making their fair share of contributions to the Cadiz-Trigg Industrial Authority. The question came while the court was considering a resolution and designation for the IDA that could bring an additional $153,846.15 to help pay off land debt for the Interstate 24 Business Park.

Dunn asked what the city is doing to help the authority, with Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander saying Mayor Todd King sits on the board and the city pays to bush hog and spray the current pad-ready site that sits in the park but provides no other financial compensation.

Alexander says the court may have a couple of options to address the issue if they so choose to do so.

Alexander adds it’s in their best interest to continue doing what they are doing.

Dunn brought up a concern that the city is making no effort to help promote the area, but when a new industry moves into the city limits, they immediately reap the benefits by collecting payroll taxes.

In other action, magistrates approved a resolution to hold on to some funding that was recently donated to the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center. The funding will be given back to them once they are able to consolidate some bank accounts. The county is not allowed to spend the funds.

Magistrates also went into a 40-minute executive session to discuss a personnel issue.

The next fiscal court meeting will be held Monday, July 6 at 6:00 PM. For more information, visit triggcounty.com.
