Waddell-Bell and Owens Up for Ward Nine Seat

A longtime city councilwoman and an employee for Max’s Cafe are the Democrat candidates for Ward 9 of Hopkinsville City Council for the June Primary Election.

Patricia Waddell-Bell and Ardell Owens both spoke about their platforms during a debate hosted by the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters last week.

Waddell-Bell, who has served on the council since 1999, says the greatest challenge in the city focuses on COVID-19.

Owens stressed the same points as Waddell-Bell, adding this has an effect on the local homeless population too.

When asked about quality of life, Owens says for the most part he likes how things are going in the city.

Waddell-Bell adds she would like to see an expansion of the newly constructed Hopkinsville Sportsplex, a full-size city swimming pool, and more improvements downtown.

Waddell-Bell says one thing she has done over the 20 years serving on council, is always talking to her constituents about their concerns.

Owens agrees that feedback from the public is important.
