Governor Andy Beshear says the state is in a plateau of new COVID-19 cases, not a decline, as more restrictions continue to be lifted after the outbreak.
During his comments Thursday, the governor said the state is in a new plateau.
He says the number of cases isn’t the metric that matters most anymore, but the hospitalization and rate have become important.
Beshear adds if a certain region sees a significant increase in cases that follow those metrics, they may implement regional pauses instead of the entire state.
Governor Beshear also announced Thursday that beginning June 29 adult daycares will be allowed to reopen. In addition, long term care facilities will begin modified congregate dining and group activities on the same day. Modified visitation rights for those same facilities can begin July 15.
In other news, Beshear says the hope is to get students back into the classroom this fall. He says an announcement from Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman will be a part of his Monday news conference.
The governor announced 69 new COVID-19 cases Thursday but says the number is low because of a backlog in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). He adds a correct update should be released Friday afternoon. The statewide total sits at 11,945.
Nine deaths were also reported Thursday, bringing the death toll to 493 with Beshear asking everyone to continue turning on your green lights to show compassion to those who have lost a family member.
