Beshear Calls for Removal of Jefferson Davis Statue

With race tensions rising across the country, questions and petitions are circulating asking to remove what some deem controversial statues of American history.

During his Thursday afternoon news conference, Governor Andy Beshear told reporters he believes the Jefferson Davis statue located in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort should be removed. Courier-Journal reporter Morgan Watkins asked the governor if he has the authority to remove the statue.

He says it really needs to be considered with all of the current events going on across the United States.

The governor wants to do many things to help African Americans, who may be struggling right now. One of those things includes forming action groups at the state level.

Beshear is expected to release more information during his Monday afternoon news conference, which can be viewed on his Facebook page around 3:00 (Central).
