Christian County has received additional funding from the U.S. Department of Justice as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that will be used to assist the county’s coronavirus response efforts.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday afternoon Christian County will receive $58,000. Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble thanked Senator McConnell for his help and said the grant from the Department of Justice will be used to help with purchasing personal protection equipment (PPE) and for law enforcement related expenses at this time.

Senator McConnell recently expressed his gratitude to members of the 531st Hospital Center stationed at Fort Campbell who returned home after supporting New York’s coronavirus response.

In April, McConnell announced the Department of Defense agreed to his request to move forward with the construction of a new Fort Campbell Middle School after he secured nearly $63 million dollars, which was later delayed but then restored.

To date, the Christian County community has received more than $2.5 million as a result of the CARES Act. The funding includes $1.4 million for Hopkinsville Community College, $700,000 for testing and treatment at Pennyroyal Healthcare Service, and $500,000 for local housing programs.

In addition to these funds, McConnell’s office says his CARES Act has had an $11 billion impact in Kentucky so far.
