Kentucky Child On Ventilator Due To Complications From COVID-19

Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday afternoon the youngest COVID-19 patient in Kentucky to be put on a ventilator.

Beshear confirmed a 10-year old boy is currently in the ICU, but no other information was released.

Dr. Steven Stack, Public Health Commissioner, says typically children have little to no complications from COVID-19.

 

Dr. Stack adds the new syndrome can cause many symptoms in children.

One-hundred and forty-one new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Sunday and 105 reported Monday, bringing the state’s total to 6,677. Of the new cases, 11 were reported in Logan County, 3 in Calloway and Muhlenberg, 2 in Christian, and 1 in Todd.

Seven new deaths were confirmed during the two-day period, including a 79-year old female from Hopkins County, bringing the state’s total to 311, with 26 from Hopkins County.

Executive Cabinet Secretary Michael Brown reports confirmed cases at Green River Correctional Complex have stabilized and adds two inmates and two staff members remain hospitalized, with two in the ICU. Brown says all inmates were separated Saturday into four different areas of the prison depending on their health status.

Additionally, Governor Beshear says his office has released guidelines for the Healthy at Work initiative for all businesses that are scheduled to be opening through May 20. All of the governor’s guidelines can be found here.
