Kentuckians Can Vote By Mail In June Primary Election

Governor Andy Beshear and Secretary of State Michael Adams released a statement Friday saying they had reached an agreement regarding the state’s primary elections, special elections, and local option elections pushed to June because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the governor’s office, Governor Beshear issued an executive order Friday that outlines the primary election procedures that will take place on June 23, including allowing all registered voters in the state to vote by mail through an absentee ballot. Beshear says while there will be significant education and work required, they are committed to making sure the primary election will be held in a safe manner while we are in this worldwide COVID-19 health pandemic.

Secretary Adams says voters across the political spectrum will be pleased with this plan to protect both democracy and public health. Adams adds he is grateful to the governor for his leadership and working with him toward ensuring a successful and safe election.

Governor Beshear says the State Board of Election will also be working on a plan to safely conduct limited in-person voting and possible drive-through voting option so that those voters who cannot vote by mail can exercise their right to vote.
