Health officials reported Saturday afternoon the first Lyon County coronavirus case has been released from quarantine.
Earlier this week, Governor Andy Beshear reported the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 was a 69-year old male.
Pennyrile District Health Department Interim Public Health Director James Tolley announced on social media that Lyon County’s first case under the guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Kentucky Department of Health was authorized for release by noon Saturday.
Tolley says the Saturday after the Governor announced the first COVID-19 case in Kentucky they had a few tests from one of their counties submitted. He adds those tests were all negative but they expected it would just be a matter of time until they had a positive case. He says they received a call about the first positive coronavirus case in Lyon County on March 17. He adds a complete investigation of this case was conducted and all contacts were made to contain the spread of the coronavirus. He states the Pennyrile District Health Department has helped submit several tests from providers to state labs and at this point, there are no other positive tests related to the first case or any positives from other tests submitted.
Tolley also urged communities to urgently heed the advice of public health officials for social distancing to help slow the spread of the coronavirus and limit exposure.
