Christian County Fiscal Court approved the 2020-21 Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Rural and Secondary Road Program recommendations Tuesday morning which includes paving six routes in the county.
At the special called meeting, Lucas Gilliam, KYTC Section Engineer in Hopkinsville presented the recommendations for the upcoming paving season. He says KYTC allocated $1.2 million for paving projects on rural and secondary routes in Christian County, and an additional $183,000 is designated as Flex Funds which can either be used by KYTC, with the court’s approval or can be kept by the county to use.
He says they six routes total 17 miles and includes KY 117/Herndon-Oak Grove Road as the first recommendation.

KYTC’s fourth recommendation is KY 800 in Crofton from KY 1348 to the west of the Pennyrile Parkway, with KY 287/Binns Mill Road fifth on the list, which Gilliam says they are requesting the county’s flex funds be used to pave a portion of the road.

Gilliam adds the last recommendation is paving the full route of KY 407, Mannington Loop.
Magistrate Mark Cansler, who is on the Road Committee, says they are recommending KYTC and the county divide the Flex Funds for the paving project on KY 287/Binns Mill Road.

Magistrates unanimously approved the motion.
Magistrates also learned Substation Road would be rebuilt this year and will be closed to traffic in mid-May and reopen possibly by the end of September.
The next fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday morning, March 24, at 8:30 in the Christian County Courthouse.
