The Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission began the process of reviewing and making changes to the Cadiz Comprehensive Plan during their Tuesday evening meeting.
Tom Britton, a planner for Community Development Services based in Hopkinsville, presented the first work product for the plan that has been worked on over the last few months. He adds under state law, KRS 100, it’s required for the comprehensive plan to be the first thing planning commissions put together.
Britton notes the goals and objectives, which is what the commission is reviewing at this time, is considered the most important step in approving the new plan.
Commission members approved to hold the public hearing during their next meeting on Tuesday evening, March 24 at 6:00 at the Renaissance Center on Jefferson Street in Cadiz. The public hearing will allow community members to review and suggest changes to the goals and objectives portion of the plan. If any major changes are made to the plan, another public hearing would have to be held to reflect the updates.
In addition, the commission is looking into the possibility of raising rates for the services they offer, which include making recommendations for rezoning changes for city council and other various other services. Chairman Bob Brame indicates the commission is not charging enough for the time put into projects and having a struggle finding the funding to complete them.
In further discussions, it was noted that Trigg County Fiscal Court has not been making any regular payments to the commission for the work they do. Brame adds Cadiz City Council pays them $400 a month, allows them to use office space in the Renaissance Center, and pays their utility costs. Board members agreed the county needs to step up to the plate and offer much-needed funding.
Some commission members plan on addressing the court in the near future to ask them to do what they feel is fair to support the work they are doing for the community.
