Medical Cannabis Bill Passes Kentucky House

Kentucky’s House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday afternoon, which would legalize medical cannabis for patients dealing with debilitating medical conditions.

The bill passed 65-30, with Representatives Myron Dossett and Larry Elkins the only area legislators to vote in favor of House Bill 136.

Matt Simon, legislative analyst at the Medical Marijuana Policy Project says patients in the state shouldn’t have to continue waiting for safe, legal, access to cannabis.

The bill sponsored by Representative Jason Nemes, of Louisville, passed by the House Judiciary Committee last week and now heads to the Senate for consideration. If enacted, it would make Kentucky the 34th state to pass a workable medical cannabis law.
