One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident involving a semi tractor-trailer on Interstate 69 in Caldwell County Friday morning.

Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis says that crews responded to reports of an injury collision near the 88-mile marker just before 11:30. He adds that when crews arrived the semi was facing the wrong direction in one northbound lane with the passenger vehicle in the median blocking part of the southbound lanes.

Chief Francis states that reports at the scene indicate a southbound passenger vehicle crossed the median, entered the pathway of a northbound semi and collided with it. The semi then crossed the median and came to a stop in the northbound lanes.

Chief Francis notes that the driver of the vehicle was out of the vehicle when crews arrived thanks to a registered nurse who witnessed the accident. Air Evac was called to the scene and transported the driver, whose name has not been released. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Both southbound lanes were blocked for several hours but traffic was re-routed using the median. One northbound lane stayed open for the entirety of the incident. All lanes are now open.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
