First District State Senate Candidate Discusses Issues

Howell visiting with the Cadiz Rotary Club Tuesday afternoon

The only candidate to file for the First District State Senate seat tells the News Edge he recently became interested in running after seeing how well former Governor Matt Bevin worked with the Senate.

The seat opens up after Senator Stan Humphries did not file to seek a third term. Jason Howell, an attorney from Murray, says the biggest issues he has heard concern about have been sanctuary cities and the second amendment issue.

Howell adds another issue to tackle is the state’s pension.

He notes one thing that needs to be fixed is the taxing structure.

Howell adds legislators will not be able to shut the door on any of these issues.

Howell thinks the main issue behind businesses not being able to find good employees has to deal with the state’s drug issue. He also shared with the News Edge ways to protect agriculture, which is the most important industry in his district.
