SCAM – People Claiming To Be A Part Of PCH

A new scam is circulating the region as someone is calling and claiming to be an employee with Publishers Clearing House and saying you won money.

A Cadiz resident brought this scam to the attention of the News Edge after she received a call from someone claiming she had won $5,000 a month for life. The Publishers Clearing House is a legitimate organization that gives away money but never calls winners. During the course of the phone call, the male asked her if she was over the age of 65 and proceeded to say she would have to pay $999.99 in order to claim the prize.

The resident adds the phone call with the scammer lasted about ten minutes and he didn’t ask for any personal information.

Margaret from the PCH Consumer Affairs Department says they will never ask for money in order to claim a prize.
