Child Found In Unsafe Conditions, Hopkinsville Woman Charged

A Hopkinsville woman was charged with wanton endangerment after police say a child was found sleeping in a home filled with smoke on Wallace Avenue Friday night.

Hopkinsville Police report they went to the home of 38-year-old Elizabeth Foster to check on a child from a previous call and Foster told officers the child was not at the home and was staying with someone else.

Police reportedly located the child in the home sleeping on a mattress on the floor and the home full of smoke from an unventilated kerosene heater. The child allegedly had soot coming from her nostrils and was hard to wake up. Police say a carbon monoxide detector was found in a nearby tree line.

The child was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Foster was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and DCBS has taken custody of the child.
