UPDATE – Saturday Tornado Count Climbs To 5 In Christian County

The National Weather Service has confirmed there were five EF-1 tornadoes that struck Christian County Saturday morning. Two of the tornadoes initially touched down in the southern portion of Caldwell County and tracked into northwestern Christian County.

The storm survey released late Wednesday afternoon says an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 90 mph touched down in the area of Hawkins Cemetery on Bainbridge Road near Pennyrile State Resort Park. The tornado began at 7:10 AM and ended at 7:23 AM and was on the ground for 3.27 miles with a maximum width of 200 yards. A few barns were damaged or blown down, a couple of houses lost shingles and siding, and dozens of trees were uprooted or snapped.

According to officials, an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 100 mph touched down at 7:05 AM in the Cobb community about seven miles west-northwest of Cerulean in Caldwell County and stayed on the ground until about 7:19 AM. At least half a dozen barns or outbuildings were damaged or destroyed, four wooden high tension power poles were taken down, and at least dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted within the path of the storm. Officials also note that the path length was 10 miles and continued into Christian County and had a max width of 250 yards.

Officials report another EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 95 mph touched down at 7:12 AM about seven miles southeast of Princeton, near the Dripping Springs Road/Battle Creek area in Caldwell County, and stayed on the ground until about 7:20 AM. Hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted within the path of the storm, which was reported to be 7.66 miles long with a maximum width of 175 yards. The tornado’s path continued into the Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park in Christian County.

As the News Edge prevoiusly reported, the Storm Survey Team confirmed late Sunday afternoon that two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in the southern portion of Christian County. An EF-1 with 100 mph peak winds touched down northwest of Pembroke and the second EF-1 tornado touched down southeast of Hopkinsville.
