A confirmed tornado touched down near the Cobb community in southern Caldwell County during a bout of unexpected severe weather Saturday morning.

Officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah report that a storm survey revealed an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 100MPH touched down at 7:05 AM about seven miles west-northwest of Cerulean and stayed on the ground until about 7:19 AM.

At least half a dozen barns or outbuildings were damaged or destroyed, four wooden high tension power poles were taken down, and at least dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted within the path of the storm.

Officials also note that the path length was 10 miles and continued into Christian County and had a max width of 250 yards.

Several other tornados were confirmed in Trigg and Christian counties that were a result of the same storm system that moved through the area Saturday morning and left thousands without power.
