Teen Flown From Lyon County Wreck Scene

One teen was flown from the scene and another sent to a local hospital following a single-vehicle accident in Lyon County Tuesday night.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says that deputies responded to a single-vehicle injury collision on KY 373, approximately 2.5 miles north of Eddyville, just after 8:30. He adds that upon arrival the deputy found a vehicle severely damaged with witnesses to the accident providing first aid to the vehicle’s occupants.

Sheriff White states that investigation revealed a 2003 Ford pickup truck driver by 16-year-old Michael D. Jones, of Eddyville, was northbound on KY 373 when a deer appeared in the roadway. Jones then braked heavily and swerved to avoid the deer causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a nearby embankment before overturning several times. A 15-year-old male passenger, whose name has not been released by authorities, was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle.

Sheriff White reports that the passenger sustained an incapacitating leg injury and was transported via helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Jones was transported to Mercy Health in Paducah by Lyon County EMS where he was treated and later released.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Eddyville Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, Lyon County Emergency Management, and Air Evac.
