Trigg Magistrates Approve Resolution Of Affirmation For 2nd Amendment

Trigg County Fiscal Court members approved a resolution Monday night that affirms the county’s commitment to upholding the second amendment.

Judge/Executive Hollis Alexander says there has been a lot of discussion about this topic.

The resolution passed unanimously, but before taking a vote Alana Dunn asked County Attorney Randy Braboy were this fell in their duties as magistrates. Braboy assured they are allowed to pass resolutions like this one.

He adds the resolution does not contravene anything passed by the federal or state government.

In addition, Cameron Sumner says he received a response from State Representative Larry Elkins concerning a letter that magistrates signed and sent to state officials about traffic safety concerns at the U.S. 68/KY 80 and KY 139 intersection.

Alexander adds the state will conduct a study to see if additional lighting or a traffic light should be installed and that over-sized stop signs and thermal rumble strips are scheduled to be installed in the coming weeks.

County residents feel the intersection is dangerous and has only grown worse with the expansion of U.S. 68/KY 80 to four lanes.

In other discussions, Sumner shared his opinion on keeping the meeting schedule the way it is, meeting the first and third Monday night of every month.

Alexander echoed similar sentiments and notes in speaking with a neighboring county that tried to go to one meeting a month, it would be easier to stay with the current schedule. No action was taken and none would need to be taken if they decide to keep the same schedule.

In other action, magistrates approved to move the Monday, January 20 meeting to Tuesday, January 21 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
